Today’s reading: 1 Timothy 4:6-16

Part of Paul’s practical advice to Timothy is the instruction to live as a “good servant of Christ Jesus.” And in order for that to happen, Timothy must set his focus on training himself for godliness (vs. 7), and living in such a way that his life provides a godly example for all to observe.

“[S]et the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to exhortation, to teaching” (vs. 12-13).

These two verses really drive home the point that what we do and the attitude and mindset we choose to operate with matters. As we live for Christ, people are watching, assessing and learning from us.

How often do you think about the fact that, as a follower of Jesus, your life is an example of Christ to others? On a scale of 1-10, how would you rank your example in each of the areas Paul sets out in verse 1–speech, conduct, love, faith, purity? What’s one action you can take this week to train yourself for godliness, and in so doing, improve your example? Tami
