Today’s reading: 1 John 1:5-10

1 John 1:5-10, and specifically 1 John 1:9, is a well-known passage and one often used to tell someone about God’s offer of salvation. But when I read these verses today, what stood out so prominently to me was this statement from verse 5: “God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” I immediately thought of the expression, “God is good all the time. All the time God is good.” It’s a truth that we can lose sight of as we navigate the busyness of life, and even more so when our life circumstances feel like they are swirling out of control. So I am grateful for John’s reminder that God, and God alone, is goodness and light.

What’s one example of how you have experienced God’s goodness in the past month? How does recalling God’s goodness help you when you encounter difficult circumstances? How would you explain 1 John 1:5, “God is light, and in him is no darkness at all” to someone who doesn’t yet have a personal relationship with God? Tami
