Today’s reading: 1 Corinthians 6:12-20

After addressing a specific situation of sexual immorality within the church in 1 Corinthians 5, Paul returns to this problem in 1 Corinthians 6, but now on a more general level. His message remains the same–avoid sexual sin–but with the added active and personal instruction to “flee from sexual immorality.” (vs. 18). He then drives the importance of this point home by reminding us that we were created by and for God and how as followers of Christ, God is residing within us.

“Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body” (vs. 19-20).

How much thought do you give to honoring God with your body (staying away from sexual sin, keeping your body physically fit, eating healthy, dressing modestly)? Why is this important? How would you explain the importance of honoring and/or glorifying God with your body to someone who is a new follower of Christ? Tami
