Today’s reading: 1 Samuel 30:1-15

As David and his men return to their home city of Ziklag, they are met with a shocking and horrific scenario. In their absence, the Amalekites have attacked Ziklag, burning the city and carrying off all the women and families. Distressed, David and his men weep until they are physically unable to shed further tears. But David doesn’t remain in this emotional state very long. In the middle of this time of seeming despair, He turns to God for strength and direction. These words came across powerfully to me this morning.

“But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God” (vs. 6).

How has God strengthened you when you or your family has experienced crisis? How would you explain or describe God being your strength to someone who is observing you go through a difficult situation? Tami
