Today’s reading: 1 Corinthians 14:1-40

Paul takes a good amount of time discussing the gifts of tongues and prophesying in 1 Corinthians 14. The church in Corinth was struggling in this area, so Paul lays out how each of these gifts function, being quite specific about differences, benefits and drawbacks. What stood out to me from this discussion was the core and underlying message of the importance of building up the Church, and how all gifts are to be used for that purpose. These words particularly caught my attention. In verse 12 Paul states “strive to excel in building up the church,” and in verse 26 he says “Let all things be done for building up.”

When you think about using your gifting, is it with the goal of building up the Church (local and worldwide)? How are you using your gifting to support and advance your local church body? Tami
