Today’s reading: 1 Kings 3:16-28

Solomon’s handling of a dispute between two mothers gives us a close up and detailed snapshot of Solomon employing his God-given wisdom in a especially delicate and tricky situation. Solomon had no factual way of knowing who was telling the truth. So rather than relying on his gut instinct or his best guess, he drew on the wisdom God had imparted to him by taking an unconventional approach. He was able to capitalize on the element of surprise to get an immediate, unrehearsed and genuine response from both women. Their reactions exposed the truth which allowed Solomon to then make the right decision.
