Today’s reading: 1 Samuel 31:1-13

In this final chapter of 1 Samuel, Saul and his sons are killed in a battle with the Philistines. It’s a sad ending for the first king of Israel. Saul’s reign started well but then progressively deteriorated as a result of his choice to take his eyes off of God to focus on himself. Although the account of Saul’s life is disheartening, his life story provides us with some valuable lessons in a number of areas–leadership, fear, disobedience, pride, and relationships–to name a few.

Take a few minutes to think back over the life example of Saul. What was the most important lesson God impressed on your heart from Saul’s example, and why? Tami
