Today’s reading: John 8:12-30

The Jewish leaders don’t know what to think about Jesus or how to deal with Him. They’re threatened by His power and the confidence and authority with which He teaches the Scriptures. They despise Jesus and want Him out of the picture. So as Jesus is teaching in the temple and makes the statement that He is the light of the world and offers the light of life (vs. 12), they launch a verbal assault on Him in an attempt to discredit Him. However, Jesus responds in His typical manner–He remains calm and focused as He delivers powerful spiritual truth.

“Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life…’ He said to them, ‘You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. I told you that you would die in your sins, for unless you believe that I am he you will die in your sins'” (vs. 12 and 23-24).

What does Jesus being “the light of the world” mean to you personally? What words would you use to explain or describe to someone how choosing to follow Jesus has changed your life from walking in darkness to living in the light? Tami
