Today’s reading: 1 Samuel 24:1-22
David was seemingly presented with the perfect opportunity to take Saul’s life, and in so doing, put himself in the position to become the king of Israel. His men even urged him to take this action. I can imagine how tempting that thought must have been. But as soon as David begins to move in this direction, he realizes that his feelings about harming Saul are just his human emotions, and that killing Saul is not the plan God has for him. So instead of taking Saul’s life, David humbly and respectfully confronts Saul, and then steps back to wait on the Lord’s timing.
I was thankful for David’s example, because being patient and waiting for God are areas in which I struggle. And this reminder through David was particularly timely today, as I am in one of those waiting situations and resisting the temptation to push forward in my timing. Thank you, God, for providing the exact message I needed today!
Do you find it difficult to wait for God to respond or move in a situation? What lesson stood out to you most about patience, waiting, listening for God’s direction or something else from David’s example today? Tami
