Today’s reading: 1 Corinthians 9:19-27

If we want to be effective in sharing the Gospel message, we need to be aware of who we’re talking with, in the sense of the person’s background, experiences and mindset. Why? Because it allows us to then adjust our approach to the particular person or group of people we’re addressing, thereby making the message of God’s love and offer of salvation more understandable and attractive. This is exactly what Paul tells us about in 1 Corinthians 9:19-27 when he writes about becoming a slave to all people while obeying the law of Christ. Verses 22-23 explain Paul’s approach well.

“Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some. I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings.”

So as we’re out being advocates for Christ, we must stand firm and stay true to the Gospel message of Christ, but we may need to adjust or vary our approach depending on the specific person(s) we’re talking with.

Do you take someone’s background and experiences into consideration as you talk to them about Jesus and spiritual matters? How does being able to share Christ in a number of different ways benefit and impact you spiritually? Tami
