Today’s reading: Psalm 136:1-26

Each verse of Psalm 136 puts before us either a description of God or a description of a mighty deed God has done, followed by the phrase “his steadfast love endures forever.” So 26 times in this psalm we’re told that God’s love is steadfast and endures forever. That’s a powerful promise we can claim!

The format of this psalm got me thinking about what I could say if I were writing my own poem to God using this format. Here are two of my verses:

  • To him who continued to watch over me even when I thought I knew better and wanted to do things on my own; for his steadfast love endures forever.
  • To him who protected and shielded my family from people with evil intentions; for his steadfast love endures forever.

Now it’s your turn to write a verse or two following the model of Psalm 136. Complete the verse below by filling in the blank with something specific from your life. Give it some thought and have fun!
