On the final day of the Feast of Booths, Jesus is talking with the crowds. He invites anyone who is spiritually thirsty to come to Him. Referring to the gift of the Holy Spirit that would come after His death and resurrection, Jesus proclaims:
“If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water'” (vs. 37-38).
Jesus’s description of the Spirit as “living water” prompted me to think a bit today about the role and functioning of the Holy Spirit. The moment we surrender our lives to Christ, the Holy Spirit takes up residence inside us which means that this “living water” is now, and will forever be, part of us. And like the physical impact of actual rivers of water, this “living water” is powerful, active and constantly transforming us spiritually.
As a follower of Christ, how often do you think about the power of the Holy Spirit and the impact the Spirit is having in your life? Why is this important? Take a minute or two to think back over the past couple weeks. What’s one example of how the Holy Spirit has empowered, strengthened or guided you? Tami
