Today’s reading: John 3:16-17; John 12:44-50

Jesus came to SAVE the world!

When we think of the phrase “Gospel message,” the conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus found in John 3:16-17 is likely the scripture passage that comes to mind. That’s because in these two verses, Jesus conveys the crux of who He is and why He came to earth (mission statement).

“‘For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.'”

We see this same message of mission being delivered in John 12:44-50. This address, however, is public and will be Jesus’s final declaration of the Gospel message. Jesus knows his death on the cross is near, and so He boldly delivers his life-saving message with passion, urgency and love (a wonderful example for us as we share the same life-giving message).

“I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness. If anyone hears my words and does not keep them, I do not judge him; for I did not come to judge the world but to save the world” (vs. 46-47).
