Today’s reading: Psalm 49:1-20

“You need more! You need bigger! You need better!” Sound familiar? Of course. Everywhere we look–television, online, magazines, billboards, shopping malls–the message is that we need and deserve more. It’s a foolish message, and one that can pull our focus off of God and steer us in a wrong direction if we’re not careful. That’s why I was thankful for the wise reminder in Psalm 50 about the dangers and pitfalls of choosing to focus on earthly wealth and riches.

“Man in his pomp will not remain; he is like the beasts that perish” (vs. 12).
